Meghan Herning

Biography

Meghan Herning is a Senior Attorney in the Family Law Department at JKZ LLP. Her practice focuses on litigation, and she has extensive trial experience in the areas of marital dissolution, property division including complex financial cases, child custody and visitation issues, and child and spousal support. Meghan is an experienced litigator that will use her skills to set cases up for success and act in her client’s best interests.

Additionally, she has extensive criminal defense experience and training that informs and enhances her ability to manage complex domestic violence cases, whether it’s seeking protection, or defending against a domestic violence restraining order. Meghan practices with a focus on global strategy tailored to client goals, strong advocacy, and efficiency.

Meghan graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2009, and received her B.A. in Latin American and African History. In 2016, Meghan received her J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law, where she was on the Dean’s List and a recipient of the Faculty Merit Scholarship. While attending GGU, she graduated from the Summer Trial and Evidence Program and was a member of the National Trial Team. She also served as an editor for the Environmental Law Journal, and interned at the Alameda Public Defender’s Office.

Meghan was admitted to the California state bar in 2017, and has been named a Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
