Federal employee and married?

On Behalf of | Sep 27, 2019 | Estate Planning

For the first time in twelve years, federal employees have a chance to add or increase their group life insurance with no medical exam or health questions asked, but only during the month of September. FEGLI-eligible employees may also elect additional coverage on the life of their spouse. For many LGBT families married only in the past few years, this is  a new opportunity to consider. Even though the plan participant has to be employed for a year after enrolling, the added bonus is that if the employee keeps this policy for five years or more while employed, the policy can be kept in place during retirement. This is super helpful for estate planning purposes and helps to insure that one’s family has additional funds and liquidity if need be.
